EXCHANGE GUY COOLS AND LIN SNELLING 2013

PUBLIC INN

It’s an invitation to the making and sharing of food as an inclusive musical choreographic act. A gastronomic performance installation offering a series of hybrid banquets celebrating native Australian spices and Italian culinary tradition. Set within the open kitchen of La Maison Folie, in Mons (Belgium) and involving a team of live musicians and a contemplative garden, plus the video screenings of Recipe for Disaster Public Inn is elaborating on the ceremonial aspects and idiosyncrasies that are intertwined within the migration of food practice and our individual sense of identity.

MESSA INSIEME

http://vimeo.com/61994356

ENGLISH VERSION

MESSA INSIEME

http://vimeo.com/61994356

A two-voice pilgrimage of the mind - A highly gestural and vocal performance with an ironic tone, that explores the tragic/comic space between being and thinking of being, where the two characters behave as if suspended in a void. Anchored to reality only by the illusion of meaning and from the desire of permanence.
They play by inventing a story, the story of a divided “I”, that looks for itself by borrowing the thoughts of the other, who ends up not recognizing itself or paradoxically maybe having found itself.
An endless rollercoaster of atmospheres that continuously translates itself into minimal movement and sound - where words become prosody and then music.
The overall composition - a dense interweaving of collaborative monologues, contemporary music and traditional Italian songs. Disclosing a feminine world fragmented with memories, doubts, laments and contradictions. Producing an interior monologue where not knowing or not willing to remember is a metaphor of an endless running away from an identity - from a responsibility that does not allow us to be. An almost serious but at the same time sacred story that lives within the ambiguity of an undecipherable smile.

A pseudo comic opera socio- psycho - political holiday style where issues of displacement and coexistence translate into music and dance around the discourse of belonging. A project commissioned by Ravenna Teatri and co-produced by Cisim together with Il Lato Oscuro della Costa on Lido Adriano, a town of condominiums and small houses on the Adriatic coast that consists almost entirely of immigrant population: 6,000 residents from over 52 different countries and over 60 000 inhabitants only for the summer season.

A very inspiring opportunity that allowed us to discover a suburbian seaside full of contradictions and speculations, where a lot of very different realities co-exists demanding urgently a better sense of integration within the territory.  A place with a genuine desire to redefine the concept of belonging.
